In the TV drama series One Tree Hill, the character Nathan Scott achieves his dream of reaching the NBA. After a collegiate career that included winning a National Championship, Nathan is drafted 10th overall by the Seattle Sonics.
Tragically, on the night of the draft, Nathan is injured in a bar fight and left paralyzed from the waist down. This ends his NBA career before it can begin.
After intense rehabilitation, Nathan eventually returns to basketball in the NBA's Development League (now called the G League). He signs with the Charleston Chiefs, where he regains his All-Star form.
After a year in the D-League, Nathan finally gets called up to the NBA by the Charlotte Bobcats. He becomes their starting point guard for the 2007-2008 season.
Nathan struggles with back injuries in Charlotte, but has his contract renewed for another year. Unfortunately, the back problems persist and Nathan is forced to retire shortly after.
So while Nathan's NBA career was brief, he did achieve his dream of making the league with his hometown Charlotte Bobcats. Had he avoided the injury on draft night, Nathan Scott likely would have become a star player in the NBA.
