DTR Continues To Impress
The 2023 NFL preseason Week 2 was marked by the continued impressive performance of Browns rookie quarterback, Dorian Thompson-Robinson (DTR). Despite facing a formidable Eagles defensive front, DTR demonstrated his ability to make smart decisions and accurate throws. His scrambling prowess was on full display as he led Cleveland to two field-goal drives in the first half. Although his stats were not as dazzling as in previous games, DTR's overall performance over three games in 14 days has shown that he is a force to be reckoned with. He may not have secured the top spots on the QB depth chart, but he has certainly made a strong case for the No. 3 spot.
Eagles' Backup QB Woes
On the other side of the field, the Eagles seem to be facing a potential crisis with their backup quarterback, Marcus Mariota. His performance during the first half was less than stellar, with numerous high misses and a tendency to hold onto the ball for too long. His lackluster performance was highlighted by a dreadful interception and a low QB rating of 42.8. With franchise quarterback Jalen Hurts' rough-and-tumble style of play and history of missed games, having a reliable backup is crucial for the Eagles. Mariota's recent performances, however, have raised doubts about his ability to fill this role.
Diabate Shines Bright
One of the standout performers of the night was undrafted free agent Mohamoud Diabate. The outside linebacker put on a spectacular show, leading to an 8-3 score at the end of the first half. His performance included a safety, a forced fumble, and a team-high seven tackles. Diabate's performance was a clear demonstration of how to stand out on the preseason stage. Similarly, wide receiver Austin Watkins made a strong case for a roster spot with seven receptions for a game-high 139 yards and a touchdown.
